In the Middle East, there are gyms and there are fitness facilities. Here in Dubai, there is a new concept that has opened up in Circle Mall located in Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC) called Wellfit. The gym not only tests the traditional fitness business model but leverages technology to create one of the most immersive fitness experiences available. The objective is to give everyone the opportunity to take more control of their health and wellness goals on their journey to a more active lifestyle.

What is Wellfit?

Wellfit is the largest indoor health and fitness club in Dubai, boasting a world-class facility across 75,000 square feet. It features 2 padel courts, 6 martial arts disciplines, 16 lifting platforms, 120 family classes, 135 cardio pieces and 300 weekly classes of which consist of signature classes that are exclusive to Wellfit such as: Blackout; Ignite; Fortify; and Mini Marines.

A lot of gyms do offer a variety of machines, sport specific training as well as group and personal training classes that are exclusive to them, but Wellfit may have found the secret to tying it all together.

Although tracking steps and monitoring heart rates have become the norm using a variety of fitness trackers, the problem people face is that they require multiple applications to review the progress. Wellfit’s application is very inclusive meaning that people can book classes and track progress all within the app itself.

Not just that, Wellfit’s app syncs with most popular fitness trackers so you don’t have to buy anything specifically for the gym.

Tracking Every Rep and Calorie Burned

Both Cardio and Strength Training Machines at Wellfit are equipped with ADVAGYM by Sony. A simple tap on the zone puck located on the machine prior to the workout allows members to track not just distance run, but every repetition and calorie burned on the machine they are working out on.

Prior to this, people could only estimate how many calories are burned during every set. Now, they can be a bit more accurate whilst gamifying the process and people are more motivated to outperform their previous results.

Furthermore, members can access a variety of pre-programmed workouts and if they have a personal trainer, they can track their performance and even send specific workouts through the application itself.

Rewarding Performance

Like the strength training machines, there are multiple areas within Wellfit that have zone pucks which help to track and monitor member performance. All the data collected from the various workouts is collected and securely stored on that member’s profile giving the member the ability to track their progress for weeks, months or years.

One of the key reasons for this is because Wellfit wants to deeply engage with their members. Soon, Wellfit will be able to analyse the data and reward its members based on where they are in the club in terms of time spent in an area, calories burned and more. They will also be able to potentially offer incentives that are not only relevant to the member, but something they would prefer to receive and value in their quest to achieve heightened standards of active living.

Netflix and Gym

It’s no secret, we all either watch Netflix or listen to Spotify just before we head to the gym. For some it’s a habit, for others it’s a pre-workout ritual. But once we get to the gym, and on to the cardio machines, we resume where we left off and watch our favorite shows on a small screen.

At Wellfit, during the onboarding process, members are given wrist bands that have a microchip embedded in it. This contains the member’s profile and it allows them to enter the gym, configure lockers and more.

Furthermore, members have the option to connect their Netflix or Spotify account to their profiles. Now, every time they go to a cardio machine, they can simply tap their wrist bands to the machine to connect their profile and they are able to continue watching what they were on a significantly bigger screen located on their console.

Final Thoughts

The overall concept of Wellfit and its utilisation of technology to create a more rich and immersive experience for sports, health and fitness enthusiasts is quite refreshing. The added levels of data combined with enhanced convenience is what truly makes this fitness club one that people should look out for.

In a world that is constantly being improved by technology, Wellfit could potentially set a whole new standard by which the fitness clubs in the region could be measured against. No matter where the future goes, Wellfit is a place you need to visit today to get a glimpse of how technology will continue to play a role to enhance our own health and wellbeing and put us on a path towards active living.
